Kandal: The Kandal Provincial Police Department has issued a statement regarding a video being shared on social media showing a woman with a sickle stuck to her back, along with claims that the victim was brutally assaulted. After receiving the information, Major General Chhoeun Sochit, Kandal Provincial Police Commissioner, ordered an immediate investigation, leading to the arrest of one suspect while the other was on the run.According to authorities, the incident occurred at 10:20 p.m. on July 18, 2026, on a dirt road near Wat Khanty in Veal Treng village, Talon commune, Sa Ang district, Kandal province.The two victims are Ros Rithy, a 20-year-old male, who was driving a motorcycle, and Van Chansal, a 21-year-old female, who was seriously injured when the sickle hit her back and stuck in her back.The two suspects are Thol Kan, 29, the assailant who threw the sickle and the motorcycle driver. A urine test showed that he had drugs. Another accomplice, Vanny Soe, 26, escaped and is being sought by the police.CircumstancesAccording to police investigations, before the incident, the two victims rode a 2026 Honda Dream motorcycle from their home in Prasat commune, Saang district, to eat dessert in Trey Sla commune. After eating, the two rode their motorcycles back home.Upon arriving at the scene, they met the two suspects who were riding motorcycles looking for a group of young men who had been arguing and insulting them. Mistaking the victim’s motorcycle for the group they were looking for, the suspects stopped their motorcycles and threw sickles at the victims.The sickle hit the victim, Van Chansal, in the back and stuck in her back, causing serious injuries. After the incident, the two suspects rode their motorcycles to escape from the scene.Despite their injuries, the two victims rode their motorcycles to inform their relatives and file a complaint at the Talon Administrative Police Station before the police sent the victim for rescue and treatment at Lok Sangha Hospital.After an investigation, on July 20, 2026, the authorities arrested the suspect named Thol Kan while the other suspect escaped.In front of the authorities, the suspect named Thol Kan admitted that he had indeed thrown the sickle at the victim because he mistook it for the group he was looking for. The results of the urine test also showed that he had drugs.The suspect is currently being detained at the Sa Ang District Police Inspectorate to file a case to be sent to court on charges of aggravated assault and illegal use of drugs.
