Tensions have flared in the Indian capital, New Delhi, as tens of thousands of young people gathered to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after allegations of leaking national exam questions sparked outrage among students and their families.
Protesters marched towards the National Assembly, demanding the government reform the education system and ensure that the exams are conducted in a transparent and fair manner.
Authorities deployed heavy security forces in the city center and used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters after they attempted to breach security barriers. Clashes left several injured and several detained.
The movement was led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth group that has gained widespread support on social media. The group says the leaked exam questions have affected the future of millions of students and exposed the government’s weaknesses in its management of education.
Senior government officials have also met with representatives of the protesters to find a solution and defuse tensions. However, the protesters have said they will continue their protests if no concrete steps are taken to address the issue.
