Japan provides security assistance of approximately $3 million to Cambodian army
Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Japan on July 19, 2026 signed an Official Security Assistance (OSA) project worth 500 million yen, equivalent to approximately 3 million US dollars, to strengthen the capabilities of the Cambodian army and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of National Defense during a courtesy meeting and farewell between Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha, Minister of National Defense, and UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.
Under this project, Japan will provide communications equipment to the Cambodian Army and patrol vessels to the Cambodian Navy. These equipment will help strengthen communications in operations, patrols, and the ability to respond to security issues.
OSA assistance is the Japanese government's framework for supporting equipment and materials to partner countries to enhance national defense capabilities and maintain international security order.
The agreement marks the expansion of defense cooperation between Cambodia and Japan as the two countries continue to strengthen ties in the fields of security, training, and peacekeeping.
