The Vatican’s Secretary of State for Relations with States and International Organizations, Father Paul Richard Gallagher, continued his mission in Ukraine by visiting the area hit by a missile attack in Kiev and calling on the world to join in prayer for a peaceful end to the war.
During the visit, Gallagher prayed at the St. Nicholas Church, which was damaged by the 2024 attack, before visiting the area hit by a missile strike in May 2026 that killed scores of civilians, including children.
He also brought a message from Pope Leo XIV to the Ukrainian people, saying that the pope continues to pray daily for Ukraine and its people suffering from the war. He encouraged people to maintain hope and faith, even though the situation remains difficult.
The visit is seen as an important message from the Vatican in showing support for the Ukrainian people and calling on the parties involved to find a peaceful solution to end the years-long war.
